Critic's Grade: A+

A horrible sequel to two perfectly well-done hit movies.

When his brother is brutally murdered in front of his face, tribe member and action warrior Mathays (The Rock- The Mummy Returns) decides he wants revenge for the murder. His quest becomes to find the leader of the group of murderers and destroy him. His plan goes awry when he is almost killed himself and he kidnaps a beautiful Sorceress (Kelly Hu). Determined to avenge his brother's death and help an endangered tribe live again, Mayhaus and his newfound friends must take back their land and his destiny is to become "THE SCORPION KING".

I must admit that I thought, this film was going to be a great sequel but after hearing negative reviews of the film I changed my mind and decided to wait for the DVD. This movie was a horrible sequel and should have never been made. There is plenty of holes in the plot and the action sequences are cheesy and predictable.

The action sequences look fake and look as if they've already been done. Like most action films, it uses the movements and slow motions that 1999's "The Matrix" first created. The scenes are cheesy and very predictable and look as if they've been taken directly from "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns". The Rock is handsome and smart, but his move to star in this film was a bad one. He should have stuck to WWE wrestling or just kept his part in "The Mummy Returns".

The film which is rated PG-13 is extremly violent and loud and sometimes makes you wonder if it is rated R. The fight sequences look fake because every 2 seconds, a different enemy is killed by swords but you never see any blood. Also the stab sounds in the film sound like the same sounds teen horror films used to make a person sound stabbed in the stomach.

The Rock's sex appeal and shirtless fight sequences brought women and young girls to see the film, but his acting isn't all that great. His performance is midly insulting and the better performances in the film are done by his supporting cast. His character adds a sense of humor to the film, but he fails and does it horribly.

Co-starring are Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile, Whole Nine Yards), Peter Facinelli (Foxfire, TV's Fastlane), and little know actors Sherri Howard, Grant Heslow, Steven Brand, and Kelly Hu who has become an overnight sensation since the film's release.

The DVD is loaded with extras that make you more interested than the actual movie. Some of the special features include Outtakes from the film, the theatrical trailor, a music video, an alternate version of the film, extended key scenes, commentary by the director, cast and crew biographies and filmographies, previews for upcoming dvds, production notes, web links and a lot more.

So if you want to see a film just to see "The Rock" then this is your film, but if want a good action film look otherwise.

Out of a possible 4 stars, this DVD deserves two ratings. The movie deserves 2 stars, but the DVD deserves 3 stars.
